"This Ain't Your Momma's Sex Talk..."

As promised, here is the audio from last week's service. You can listen to it here, or if you prefer, download the file here. (right click and choose "save target as") You can then burn it to a CD or play it in iTunes. (if you want a CD, let me know). In relation to this, we will be covering the questions on homosexuality a little more in depth this coming week, so make sure you are there to hear the rest of it...

December...

Hey everybody….

Just wanted to give a short update about what is going on this month at Momentum…

This Wednesday, December 3rd, we are finishing up our “Finding God in Your iPod” message series. And we’re gonna finish it up by talking about SEX. It is impossible to take in any sort of mainstream music or media without being exposed to both direct and indirect references to sexuality. We want to help you understand the messages that are being sent your way, and we will address this issue in a very open and honest way.

Wednesday, December 10th will be a night where you can literally “ask anything”. We are collecting questions about anything…church, the bible, God, sex, etc. If you have a question that you’d like us to answer, you can submit it this Wednesday night, or you can just email it to me. I will not reveal who asked the questions when I answer them, so feel free to ask anything…

Wednesday, December 17th will be a Momentum Christmas. This is gonna be a blast! Complete with Christmas songs, games, and a white elephant gift exchange. (If you are not familiar, a white elephant gift is a gift that you would absolutely hate to receive yourself, but one that is really funny to watch someone else get…for example, a can of beets or an old boot). Bring a gift with you and we will have some fun with it. We will be awarding a price to whomever wears the ugliest holiday sweater, so go raid someone’s closet.

And last but not least, the 12HR Blitz is right around the corner on Friday, Jan. 2nd. This event is literally packed full of the most fun that is possible in twelve hours. In the course of the night, we go to a gym with a pool and climbing wall, go to a movie theater with pizza and popcorn, go cosmic bowling, go snowtubing, and eat breakfast before it's all said and done. All for 25 bucks.
Registration packets are available on our website here, so make sure you get yours and pre-register to grab a spot.
Hope you enjoyed your thanksgiving and we look forward to helping you celebrate this holiday season with some great times...

What is goin' on?

Hey Momentum...

We have a few things on the horizon that I want to remind you about...so here comes an update!

- This Wednesday is "See You at the Pole". I'd like to encourage you to join students from your school in a time of prayer at the flagpole tomorrow morning. This is a powerful time, and tomorrow night I'd love to hear stories of how it went for you. We will be concluding our "Get in the Game" series, and you don't wanna miss it. Some of you have asked to see my Olympic Training Video from week one, so here you go...

Olympic Focus from Matt Underwood on Vimeo.

- This Sunday evening we will be having a combined "ManTime" and "TeaTime" (thats "ManTea" for all of you) event here at the church. In honor of our Olympic Message Series, we will be getting together to watch the best Olympic movie EVER...Cool Runnings. If you haven't seen it, you need to, and if you have, you know it's gonna be tons of fun. Come and join in from 6:00-8:00 in the church fellowship hall.

- Next Wednesday night, October 1st, we are hosting our second-ever "Flick Night". Grab some postcards and invite people at school. We'll be watching another award-winning short film "The Least of These". We'll have snacks in the foyer before the movie starts. It all gets underway at 6:30pm.

- We're also gearing up for this year's Fall Retreat. I am really excited about this event, and want to encourage you all to do your best to be there this year. This year, the retreat is themed "Character Welcome". We're returning to Covenant Park Bible Camp, and we're staying an extra day...bonus! You can download a registration form here, or check on the forms page. As I announced last week, you can win a free trip in our drawing simply by coming to Momentum between now and the Fall Retreat. For every week you attend, you will receive an entry into our drawing, and in the end, one guy and one girl will get to go for FREE. Sweetness. I do have some limited scholarship funds available, so if money is problem, talk to me in the next two weeks and we can try and help you go.

Flick Night Returns...

We're going to be having our second flick night on Wednesday, October 1st at 6:30pm, so make sure you tell all of your friends about it. We'll be viewing a film titled "The Least of These" which is a brilliant short film...winner of many awards. We will have snacks and lots of fun as well, so make sure you are here for it all, and bring someone with you!

We're BAAAAAACCK...

Oh yes, it is that time once again.  Time for Momentum to come out of its summer hibernation and begin having weekly services again.  We're starting up on Wednesday, September 10th at 6:30pm with a new message series entitled "Get in the Game".  You need to be there.  We'll see you then.

Tears in my Eyes...

I cannot believe that summer is already drawing to a close. I feel like school JUST got out, and yet fall sports are starting up, and students will be back in school in a matter of weeks. Don't get me wrong, I love the fall, but I always lament the passing of summer. We've got a couple things left before school starts, and I'd love to see you all there...

Tonight (Wednesday the 13th) at 6:30pm the Mexico missions team will be sharing photos and stories from the trip. Come and hear about the awesome opportunities we had and the great things that God did.

This coming Sunday, August 17th, we'll be having our final "Summer Nights" event. We will be heading down to Park Point for some food and games. We'll be leaving from the church at 6:00pm to ride down and returning by 9:00pm. Otherwise, you can just meet us down there at 6:30pm if you want. Hope you all can make it...

Hola!

We are currently in Mexico taking part in an awesome missions opportunity.  We have a trip blog which you can access using the link on the right-hand side under the site links section.  Feel free to keep up with what's going on with us!

VBS & ValleyFair

Don't forget that VBS is coming up on July 21-24, for all of you going into 7th or 8th grade. And we're ending out the week with a whole youth group trip to ValleyFair on Friday July 25th. We leave DGT at 7:30am and the cost is $25. Grab a form from the registration page and bring it with you. And hey- invite some friends while you're at it!

It's Time Again...

What you've been waiting all year for...the Momentum Summer X-Games. More fun and bizarre ethnic food than you can legally pack into one night. Wednesday, May 28th.

Saturday, May 17, 2008

A Reminder...

Don't forget that tomorrow night (Sunday, May 18th) we are having a combined event at church rather than in our normal separate locations.  So, instead of ManTime and TeaTime, you're getting "ManTea".  6-8pm at DGT.

Green Golf Balls...

Tomorrow night at Momentum we're going to unravel a wondrous and life-changing truth using a timeless story involving green golf balls. You should really be there for this...you'll be glad you were. (At least we think so...otherwise, why would we bother to do this? But hey, you might not be glad you were there...you might feel like you wasted a couple hours of your life that you'll never get back, but it wouldn't be very good promotion if we mentioned that possibility. Either way, it'd be nice to you see there.)

a Momentum first...FLICK NIGHT

You've got an awesome opportunity in store on Wednesday, May 7th, only at Momentum. We're going to be viewing an incredible film called "Most". It is an academy award nominated short film, and many who have seen it go as far as to call it "life-changing". We're bringing it to you for free on the big screens, and we'll be serving refreshments as well. Come at 6:30pm and bring a friend. You'll be glad you did...

Entering April...

There's a real excitement as we enter into the month of April. The snow is melting, the sun is shining, and warmer weather is on the way! Our student ministry is also experiencing new growth and energy during this time, so if it's been awhile since you've come, we'd love to have you back and reconnect! We're beginning a new message series on Wednesday, April 9th, and we'd like to invite everyone out for a great time with us at Momentum. Hope to see you there!

Home Groups...

We're going to be reconfiguring our Sunday night home groups over the coming weeks. I'm really excited to get things going again with them, and I wanted to make sure you all were aware of the new schedule and locations. We meet this sunday from 6-8pm. The girls will be meeting at the Blomdahl's home and the guys will be meeting at Pastor Ryan's house. If you need directions, please contact Pastor Ryan or call the church office at 218-722-1928. This week the guys home group will be going sledding, so guys, dress appropriately and bring a sled if you have one. See you then!

Déjà vu...

Well, it seems that it will be another week before we get to see each other at Momentum. We are canceling all services for this Wednesday, Jan. 30th due to the extremely cold temperatures and wind chill. As you can see in the picture above, it can be fairly difficult to start your car in this kind of climate. For those of you who needed to still turn in your Acquire the Fire registration forms, we will extend the early bird pricing through this coming Sunday, so make sure you hand it in this week! And be sure to show up next week for the beginning of our February message series..."Your Bourne Identity".

Freeze Out...

I've got some sad news to share with you my friends...our old friend the boiler (that crazy contraption that heats our building) has decided to take a couple of days off. Unfortunately for us, this happens to be one of the coldest weeks of the entire year. So, due to the fact that over half of the building is currently without heat, we have chosen to cancel all Wednesday night activities for this week (January 23). I couldn't be more disappointed, especially since this falls during our "It Happened on a Beach" message series. But, if you look below, you will see a picture of what I would have looked like if I'd worn shorts to church this week...

So, sadly, we won't have opportunity to see each other until next Sunday, but in the meantime, keep warm! This coming Sunday (January 27) does mark the return of home groups (finally!). We'll be meeting at the church from 6:00-8:00p. Be sure not to miss it! Also, if you're in 7th-9th grade and are planning to go on the Acquire the Fire trip, make sure to get your registration in before Feb. 1st or the price goes up. Registration forms are available in the event forms section of the website.

Have a great week!

I Got The Fire!

Attention all you 7th, 8th, (and special for this year) 9th graders! We've got a great event coming up just for you on Feb. 15 and 16. We'll be heading down to Minneapolis for the Acquire the Fire Conference, held at the Target Center. If you've been before, then you know how great a time we have. If you haven't, this is one not to miss. The conference itself is loaded with lots of excitment, some amazing speakers, and this year the bands are Superchic[k] and Stellar Kart. You can check out a promo video below. Also, we'll be staying downtown at the Embassy Suites, and you'll have some free time to enjoy all the hotel has to offer. If you need a registration form, check out the forms section, or click the link here. The cost for this trip is $85.00, but it goes up to $100 if you don't get your registration in by Feb. 1st. Contact Pastor Ryan if you have questions...
